HOMEworks is a project designed by the Samuels Group to develop a comprehensive plan to address family homelessness in New York City (NYC). Begun in October 2019 with support from Trinity Church Wall Street, the project is designed to deliver cross-disciplinary, research-informed solutions focused on individual, family, and community stabilization and revitalization to the 2021 NYC mayoral candidates, in collaboration with advocacy efforts, to increase housing stability in NYC. HOMEworks created a Primer on Family Homelessness in New York City, and convened a Research Advisory Group in February 2020, to ensure such a multi-focal approach is based on research evidence and proven best practices. National, regional and NYC experts and thought leaders are now helping develop the HOMEworks research agenda by harnessing economic theories and proven practices in human sciences as well as expertise and experience. From this foundation, HOMEworks will define the studies, models and pilot programs necessary to inform and create the HOMEworks plan as a rational and inclusive approach. The plan’s scope not only will direct the re- engineering of existing funding and tools, but also identify and characterize new strategies and tactics. When implemented, the HOMEworks plan will evolve the current NYC systems for families who are homeless or those at risk of homelessness into one grounded in community stabilization and permanent housing solutions.
